Aviation covers aircraft and advanced air mobility, engines and propulsion, the test systems those engines are certified on, avionics and flight systems, aerostructures and components, uncrewed and autonomous aircraft, simulation and training technology, flight-operations and airspace systems, and aircraft maintenance and modification. Uncrewed aviation is the largest group, not because the category is a catch-all but because that is what the dataset shows.
The sector shares suppliers, certification paths and engineering talent with both Space and Defence, and several records here are tagged in more than one of the three. A company that merely sells into aerospace is not in this sector — the technology itself has to be aviation technology.
